In Morocco, transport can make or break a trip. No taxi to be found at the airport at midnight, a suitcase too big for a bus, a riad hidden at the end of an alley you cannot find: these are the moments that cause the most stress. On the other hand, a driver waiting for you with a name sign, an air-conditioned vehicle and a price agreed in advance mean your holiday starts the moment you land. This guide reviews every way of getting around southern Morocco and explains how private tourist transport works.

The airport transfer: the first impression of your trip

The journey between the airport and your accommodation is the most important of your stay: you are tired, loaded with luggage, sometimes arriving at night in an unfamiliar country. With a private transfer, your driver follows your flight, waits free of charge if it is delayed and greets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign. We cover each airport in dedicated guides:

City-to-city journeys

Marrakech, Essaouira, Agadir and Taghazout form a triangle that many travellers cover in one or two weeks. These two- to three-hour journeys are ideal by private car, with photo stops, a lunch break and no timetable constraints. Our guides compare the options for Marrakech to Essaouira and Marrakech to Agadir or Taghazout, and our table of driving distances and travel times in southern Morocco helps you plan a realistic itinerary.

A private driver for a day or several days

Beyond transfers, you can book a vehicle with driver for a day or several days: sightseeing, day trips, shopping, restaurants in the evening. It is the most flexible option for a road trip or a stay with lots of travel. We explain how it works in our guide hiring a private driver in Marrakech for the day.

Which vehicle for how many travellers?

  • Premium SUV, 1 to 3 passengers: ideal for a couple or a business traveller.
  • Mercedes Vito, 1 to 7 passengers: the most versatile minivan, with plenty of room for luggage and pushchairs.
  • Mercedes Sprinter, 8 to 16 passengers: for large families, groups of friends and corporate events.
  • Off-road 4x4, up to 4 passengers: for the desert and tracks.

How a private transfer works

  1. You book online or on WhatsApp, giving the date, time, flight, number of passengers and luggage.
  2. We confirm the fixed price per vehicle and the pick-up details quickly.
  3. Your driver tracks your flight and adjusts his arrival time if it is early or late.
  4. A personal welcome in the arrivals hall, help with luggage, cold water on board.
  5. Drop-off at your accommodation, or at the closest point for medina riads, where a porter can take over.
  6. Payment on site, with no online payment.

For families with children, we provide baby seats and boosters on request: all our tips are gathered in our guide family travel in Morocco by private transfer.

How prices are calculated

A private transfer is charged per vehicle rather than per person, depending on the distance, the type of vehicle and sometimes the time of day. The price includes fuel, tolls and the driver: there is no meter running in traffic jams and no luggage surcharge. The more of you there are, the more attractive the cost per person becomes, often close to that of a taxi or a shared shuttle.

Safety and reliability: what to check

In Morocco, carrying tourists for payment is reserved for companies holding a tourist transport licence, with vehicles inspected and insured for this purpose. Before booking, check that the company is identifiable, that the price is confirmed in writing and that you have a contact reachable 24 hours a day. Avoid improvised arrangements at the airport exit.
